“Exercise is really important to me – it’s therapeutic. So if I’m ever feeling tense or stressed or like I’m about to have a meltdown, I’ll put on my iPod and head to the gym or out on a bike ride along Lake Michigan with the girls.” ~Michelle Obama

Break a Sweat: Take Your Exercise Routine Outside This Summer
Summer is the perfect time to break up your exercise routine and take it outside. The change in scenery can even affect your mood, since working out in nature tends to release your feel good hormones. Being in nature can also reduce your stress level. The increased time in the sun will help you get your much needed vitamin D. Many of us are deficient in this vitamin. Consider these outdoor workout options for your next sweat session:
Give the Treadmill a Rest – Take your run or walk outside. You can burn even more calories outside due to the wind resistance. Walk or run around your neighborhood, or a park. If you are lucky enough to live by a beach, walk or run on the sand, which again will burn more calories than your treadmill.
Take a Hike – There are several National Parks in this country. Take a day or weekend and plan a hike on one of the trails. You can include the family and it would be a good fitness lesson for any child. Pack plenty of water and some portable snacks such as a healthy trail mix. Bonus calorie burner: Your backpack can help you burn more calories by adding some resistance while walking.
Water, Water, Everywhere – Now that the weather is warm again, it’s the perfect time to swim at your local pool, lake or beach. Swimming is also very easy on your joints as well as a being a good calorie burner. Create a 30-minute workout using different strokes such as freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.
Go Play at the Park – Many neighborhood and area parks are incorporating fitness equipment. One local park near my house gives instructions at every station so you can put together a strength training routine and complete it at the park. Take your kids along so they can join you or let them play on the slides and swings while you workout.
More Water Play Time – Kids don’t need to have all the fun in the water. Head to your local lake or beach and grab a stand up paddleboard or kayak. You’ll probably have so much fun that you won’t even realize how much exercise you are getting. If you live near a beach you can also take a surfing lesson and learn something new. If you happen to own a boat, have a friend with a boat or rent one for day, you can always water ski or wakeboard to get some exercise and burn some extra calories.
Whatever you choose to do this summer, have fun and remember to stay hydrated and don’t forget your sunscreen!

A super easy vegan and paleo-friendly nutella banana ice cream recipe using just two ingredients! No cooking or ice cream machine required!
Ingredients
> 2 very ripe bananas > 1/3 cup Paleo-tella (Paleo Nutella)* > Cocoa nibs, for garnish (optional)
*(Variations: You can use regular Nutella in this recipe; or instead of Nutella, use 6 Tbsp coconut sugar instead of 2 Tbsp).
Instructions
Make sure your bananas are very ripe. Peel and cut into small slices. Freeze for 1 to 2 hours, until completely frozen through. Transfer to a food processor along with the Paleo-tella.
Blend on high, scraping down the sides occasionally, until it reaches the consistency of smooth soft serve ice cream. Be patient, it will get there! Serve immediately or freeze for future consumption. Garnish with cocoa nibs, if using.
